These very cute, smart and beautiful birds are called Cockatiels.
We had 4 of them plus a baby from 2 of them as in the above pictures.
The baby was born on 2/21/02. It was such a shrilling
experience to see such a lovely life born. The baby's parents are
called BiBi (female, with white and gray feather) and Didi (the one with
pure white feather).
These are my birthday gifts for Nina in 2000. I
bought them because I heard from our conversations that she used to keep
birds when she was very young but very sadly before she immigrated to
the US, she had to give them up to her friends. I am glad the
cockatiels are prettier and closer to us than the ones she kept before.
They are the best birthday gifts I have given to someone so important,
my wife Nina, in my life. I am very happy that Nina loves them so
much. I didn't do much, our God did all the work.
Cockatiels and parrots belong to the same family
although of different species. If trained well at their early ages
through hand-feeding, they would think they are human beings and imitate
our language.
They not only can imitate our language but are like
human beings in a lot of ways. For example, they have different
personalities. Some of them are very aggressive, some very passive
and quiet, some very responsive to us and others simply ignored us when
we approached them.
They gave us so much fun.
From the beauty of the cockatiels, we couldn't help but
Praise The Lord for such wonderful creation. Our God is the
greatest creator, designer and artist of all.
As of 5/15/09, the 3rd generation were born and they
came in 3 -- Abby (5/15/09), Bailey (5/15/09) and Cody (5/20/09) (Sadly,
Cody lived only for 3 days and died on 5/22/09 because he was too small
and couldn't compete with his older sister and brother during meal
time! He was starved to death!)
This is amazing because in the wild there are so many
birds, so many choices and they can choose the natural favorable
environment to make it work. That's why over the years, the grandparents
were only able to hatch 1 egg successfully and the grandma died in 2003
because of lack of calcium after laying the 9th egg and the 10th egg got
stuck in the body. The veterinarian couldn't save her.
We didn't expect the father and the mom to outdo the grandparents
because the grandparents were abnormally intelligent birds. Last time,
the mom & dad failed because they didn't seem to have a clue what to
do with the eggs.
This time, it's like miracle, they suddenly got it and knew exactly what
to do and how to do it. They were also so committed, each taking 12
hours per day in turn working together to make it work!
